CSSAA Scholarships

The College of Social Science Alumni Association Study Abroad Scholarship

The College of Social Science Alumni Association began awarding annual $500 scholarships in 1997 for students majoring in a College of Social Science discipline who planned to participate in a study abroad program coordinated by a member of the Social Science faculty. In 1999, the CSSAA Study Abroad Scholarship fund was fully endowed, and in 2002 the CSSAA Board of Directors made a decision to increase the annual amount available to students in order to offer two $1,500 each year. See the link on the right for a list of the many Social Science students who have benefited from this alumni generosity since then.

This scholarship benefits only students participating in a study abroad program, and recipients are selected based upon academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need. Preference is given to students wishing to study in China, India, Africa or other Southeast Asian regions.

Winners of these scholarships are expected visit a CSSAA Board of Directors meeting to share details on their study abroad experience.


 

The College of Social Science Alumni Association Undergraduate Research Grant

This grant is intended to support undergraduate research/internship engagement during the summer with prefernce given to students studying/interning in developing countries. Nominees must be undergraduate majors in the College of Social Science who would have achieved at least junior standing at the time of their travel.

This is not a scholarship intended to fund travel expenses associated with Study Abroad programs. The intent is to support undergraduate research that a student would like to puruse under the supervision of a member of the faculty.  Funds are expended annually from the College of Social Science Alumni Association account (CSSAA), and the CSSAA retains the rights to determine each year the amount of the award(s) and if funds will be distributed based on the quality of the applications received.
