Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science

Interdisciplinary Studies integrates courses from departments and professional schools across campus to build in-depth, cohesive, thematic programs of study (concentrations), which are grounded in the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. The interdisciplinary major may also be combined with a teacher certification program. Thematic areas of study include:

  • Community Relations—internal and external relationships, the formation and development of communities, and strategies for social change in various types of human communities
  • Environmental Policy—policy and administration, law, and environmental advocacy
  • Health Studies—science, technology, psychology, medicine, law, ethics, and preparation for medical school and other public or allied health care fields
  • Human Aging—aging, health, memory, economics, and policies related to older adults
  • Human Resources and Society—human resources in business, industry, and government
  • International Studies—regional and area studies of various international/global phenomena
  • Law and Society (prelaw)—the role of law in society and preparation for law school and/or careers in public service
  • Public Policy Studies—social, political, and economic policies and policy-making processes at local, state, national, and international levels
