Day of the Dead Celebration: In a project, developed by history professor Juan Javier Pescador, MSU will coordinate weeklong activities to honor this ancient Mexican tradition Oct. 28-Nov. 12. The Julian Samora Research Institute (JSRI) will celebrate its 20th anniversary with highlights of the growth, contributions and needs of Latino/a populations and communities, at its annual conference Nov. 5-7 at the East Lansing Marriott. The JSRI will host an organizational meeting of the North Central Education/Extension and Research Activity 216 Nov. 4 and 5 at the East Lansing Marriott. As part of the celebration of the JSRI a special musical performance, Sones de Mexico with MSU Graduate Brass Quintet, will be held Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. at MSU's Music Auditorium. Special arrangements will be performed by MSU faculty member Ricardo Lorenz. The event is free.

Call for Proposals

Michigan Applied Public Policy Research Program

IPPSR is accepting proposals for funding research focused on tools, policies, or incentives that work on behalf of economic recovery overall or in a particular market or for a specified population. Awards will vary from $1,000 to $15,000. An additional $10,000 designated for survey research is available. Deadline for proposal submission is Monday, September 28, 2009.

Grant recipients will generate discussion of a policy-relevant issue and pertinent economic growth possibilities with a report of their work that will be published as a research brief in the policy arena. more...
