Erykah Benson

Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science

Erykah Benson is a rising Senior studying Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science with a concentration in Geography. She has two minors in Chicano/Latino Studies and Sociology. She will graduate in May 2021 and plans to pursue a doctoral program in Sociology in the Fall of 2022. Her research interests include racial and socioeconomic disparities in health and education. She plans to continue research in those areas in graduate school. She has previously conducted a content analysis on a mainstream high school history textbook and analyzed the portrayal of racial and ethnic minorities during the Civil Rights Era. She is currently working on an expanded version of this study with a team of undergraduate students and faculty members, a project that is funded by the Andrew Undergraduate Fellowship and the Provost Undergraduate Research Initiative.
