Shannon A. Halbedel

Student Success

Shannon A. Halbedel currently serves as the Director of Student Success in the College of Social Science at Michigan State University, where she is privileged to oversee the College’s academic support services and support university-wide student success initiatives. Shannon holds a Bachelor’s in Clinical/Community Psychology and Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Michigan and is currently finishing her Doctorate at North Central University.

Shannon has served students in higher education for over 20 years. Her various experiences include higher education administration, leadership, enrollment management, program development, instruction, writing and administering student service grants (TRiO, Title III), program management, student services, academic success coaching, supervision, and career planning and leadership. Her work has been guided by a desire to forge multidisciplinary partnerships, both on and off-campus, that create leadership opportunities and support student success and social mobility. As a first-generation college student, she has used her various roles in higher education to serve, advocate for and mentor first-generation, under-resourced, and under-served students

For Shannon, student success is a mission to serve others and must include students as partners and responsible stakeholders in their education. She is passionate about delivering student services in a manner that is meaningful, integrated and seamless with the academic mission of the institution.  She’s been fortunate to have the opportunity to impact the lives of countless students and takes great pride in ensuring the success of students no matter their background or the barriers they face.
