Four College of Social Science students nominated for the prestigious Marshall Scholarship

Four College of Social Science students are among the six undergraduates and two alumni nominated by Michigan State University for the Marshall Scholarship.  

The Marshall Scholarship provides support to approximately 50 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country to study at any university in the United Kingdom. MSU has produced 20 Marshall Scholars to date.   

 Downes-caroline.jpgAnthropology 2024 graduate Caroline Downes is among those nominated. A Honors College member, she graduated with majors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Lyman Briggs College in addition to Anthropology in the College of Social Science. She was nominated for the Marshall Scholarship in 2023 as well. 

 

 

 

hamilton-jerome.pngJerome Hamilton, Political Science Pre-Law major, was also nominated. Jerome is a Social Science Scholar, PLS Scholar and Honors College senior. He was a finalist for the Truman Scholarship this spring. 

 

 

 

Hodzic-belma.jpgAlso in the Honors College, Belma Hodžić is a senior majoring in Comparative Cultures and Politics in James Madison College, and World Politics in the College of Social Science.   

 

 

 

rodriguez-abigail.pngAbigail Rodriguez is a Political Science Pre-Law major in the College of Social Science who is double majoring in Art and Humanities in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, minoring in Chicano/Latino Studies and is a member of the Honors College.  

 

 

In 2023, Dorothy Zhao was awarded named MSU’s 20th Marshall Scholar. She graduated from MSU with degrees in Psychology in the College of Social Science, Neuroscience in the College of Natural Science, and Human Biology in the College of Natural Science.  

Previous Marshall finalists include PLS alumna Jasmine Jordan and Economics alumnus Vishnu Kannan, both of whom were also finalists for the U.S. Rhodes Scholarship.  Jordan was named a Gates-Cambridge Scholar in 2021.
