MSU social scientists recognized in '2021 Highly Cited' list

Eleven Michigan State University researchers have been recognized in the 2021 Highly Cited Researchers List compiled by Clarivate Analytics, including two from the MSU College of Social Science.
Each year, the Web of Science Group identifies the world’s most influential researchers. The list includes those who have been most cited by peers over the past decade.
According to the report, the researchers had “multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science. Of the world’s scientists and social scientists, Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers truly are one in 1,000.”
Included on this list are the following College of Social Science researchers:
- Aaron M. McCright, professor and chairperson in the Department of Sociology, College of Social Science.
- David Roy, professor of geography in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences, and the Center for Global Change and Earth Observations in the College of Social Science.
The other nine MSU researchers recognized are:
- Christoph Benning, MSU Foundation Professor and University Distinguished Professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, and plant biology in the College of Natural Science, and an MSU AgBioResearch faculty member in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He is also director of the MSU-U.S. Department of Energy Plant Research Laboratory.
- Kevin Childs, assistant professor of plant biology in the College of Natural Science, and director of the Genomics Facility core.
- Gregg A. Howe, MSU Foundation Professor and University Distinguished Professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the College of Natural Science.
- Tomas M. Hult, professor of marketing in the Eli Broad College of Business
- Rufus Isaacs, professor of entomology in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
- Russell E. Johnson, MSU Foundation Professor of Management in the Eli Broad College of Business.
- Jianguo “Jack” Liu, University Distinguished Professor and Rachel Carson Chair in Sustainability, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and MSU AgBioResearch. He is also the director of the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability.
- Morteza Mahmoudi, assistant professor in the Department of Radiology and Precision Health Program in the College of Human Medicine.
- James M. Tiedje, University Distinguished Professor Emeritus Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences in the College of Natural Science and College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He is also the former director of the MSU Center for Microbial Ecology.
