Team of MSU Researchers win prestigious award for article related to diversity, equity and inclusion transformative change

A team of MSU Social Scientists were recently awarded The Neuner Award for Excellence in Professional Scholarly Publication for their collaborative work on a scholarly article. This is an award given to authors judged to have written the overall finest article in the Journal of Higher Education Management.    

The focus of the article called “Creating Sustainable University Structures for Offices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)” is to provide a roadmap of best DEI practices for colleges, units, and/or individuals who are seeking the best route to implement sustainable and transformative DEI change.   

Dr. Nwando Achebe, Professor of History and Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the College of Social Science, co-authored the article with Carole Gibbs, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Acting Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the College of Social Science, Brian G. Johnson, MSU Human Development and Family Studies doctoral alumnus and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and inclusion in James Madison College, Daniel Velez-Ortiz, Associate Professor of Social Work, and graduate student Chioma Nwaiche.
