Dean Brent Donnellan announced that psychology professor Dr. Emily Durbin has been named the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies for the College of Social Science.

This position was formerly known as the Associate Dean of Student and Academic Affairs—the new name reflects the breadth of the role and makes the scope of duties more straightforward.  Dr. Durbin will gradually assume the duties of this new role immediately.

“Her exceptional commitment to undergraduate education and outstanding administrative experience makes her perfect for this new role,” said Dr. Brent Donnellan.

Dr. Durbin served as the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies for the past year. Dr. Durbin is an accomplished researcher, teacher, and administrator. She is an internationally recognized expert on temperament and psychopathology, especially in younger children. She served for several years as one of the Associate Chairs in Psychology. Importantly for her new role, Dr. Durbin is a highly regarded and accomplished undergraduate instructor. Emily won the College of Social Science Outstanding Teacher Award in 2022.

"I'm very excited to step into this role and be a part of the exceptional team of faculty, advisors, and staff who make the College an academic home and place of growth and connection for our students," said Dr. Durbin. "Our College is lucky to serve a diverse community of students whose hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning challenge us all to provide the best possible environment. I look forward to serving our students and helping them to achieve their goals for their time at MSU and beyond."
