Four Social Scientists nominated for Marshall Scholarship

Anneliese Mackel and Kristin Janka

Three College of Social Science students and one alumnus have been nominated by Michigan State University for the Marshall Scholarship. which provides support to approximately 50 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country to study at any university in the United Kingdom. MSU has produced 20 Marshall Scholars to date. 

The results of this competition will be determined in the coming months. The College of Social Science nominees include: 

  • Photo of Kaylin Casper

    Kaylin Casper, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in sociology through the College of Social Science, and humanities pre-law through the College of Arts and Letters. Casper is from Burbank, California, and attended John Burroughs High School.

     

  • Photo of Andre Edmond

    Andre Edmond, a 2025 alumnus who majored in psychology through the College of Social Science. Edmond is from Grand Haven, Michigan, and attended Grand Haven High School.

 

  • Photo of Kierra Jursch

    Kierra Jursch, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in biology through Lyman Briggs College, and psychology in the College of Social Science. Jursch is from Gladstone, Michigan, and attended Gladstone Area High School.

 

  • Photo of Colin Reese

    Colin Reese, a fourth-year student majoring in comparative cultures and politics through James Madison College, and interdisciplinary studies in social science through the College of Social Science. Colin is from Victor, Idaho, and attended Jackson Hole High School

 

Other MSU nominees include: 

  • Erik Brodsky, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in advanced mathematics and computational mathematics through the College of Natural Science. Brodsky is from Cortlandt Manor, New York, and was homeschooled for high school.

  • Abigail Carvey, a 2025 alumna who majored in neuroscience through Lyman Briggs College and current master’s student majoring in pharmacology and toxicology through the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Carvey is from Farmington, Michigan, and attended Farmington High School.

  • William Castanier, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in international relations through James Madison College, and Arabic in the College of Arts and Letters. Castanier is from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and attended Pioneer High School.

  • Zachary Christiansen, a fourth-year student majoring in materials science and engineering with a manufacturing concentration through the College of Engineering. Christiansen is from Ypsilanti, Michigan, and attended Skyline High School.

  • George (Truman) Forbes, a 2024 Honors College alumnus who majored in environmental studies and sustainability through the College of Agriculture and Natural Science, and comparative cultures and politics through James Madison College. Forbes is from Bradford, Pa., and attended Bradford Area High School.

  • Elena Forman, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in arts and humanities through the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities and digital storytelling through the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Forman is from East Lansing, Michigan, and attended East Lansing High School.

  • Julia Preservati, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in environmental studies and sustainability through the College of Agriculture and Natural Science, and zoology through the College of Natural Science. Preservati is from Huntington, West Virginia, and attended Saint Joseph Catholic High School.

  • Isabelle Radakovich, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in international relations as well as political theory and constitutional democracy in James Madison College, and French through the College of Arts and Letters. Radakovich is from Cody, Wyoming, and attended Cody High School.
