Welcome to MSU and the College of Social Science! The College of Social Science offers extensive opportunities for scholarship to transform the human experience. Fields of study in the college prepare students to think critically, analyze thoughtfully, work cooperatively, and solve problems effectively as well as offer numerous experiential learning opportunities.
New students will work with academic advisors in the College of Social Science to complete NSO’s Checkpoint 3: Advising and Enrollment. Once students have completed Checkpoint 2, they will be contacted by the Academic and Student Affairs Office in the College of Social Science with information about their next steps to prepare for advising and enrollment.

A Freshman Seminar Away could be the right opportunity for you. Explore unique topics around the United States as you travel with faculty and connect with experts to experience learning first-hand. The seminar is held during the summer before you begin your fall classes, carries 3 academic credits toward graduation and fulfills the Experiential Learning Requirement for College of Social Science students.

The Social Science Scholars Program offers its students more opportunities, support, and one-on-one investment than any other undergraduate program in the United States. Each year we recruit diverse, close-knit cohorts of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores who wish to learn in small groups, conduct research, get to know their faculty, find excellent internships, and take on leadership roles on campus and in the community.
A variety of opportunities exist within the College of Social Science for members of the Honors College. Honors sections of regular courses provide in-depth exposure to course materials, including class presentations and enhanced research and writing assignments.
The Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) is a collaborative effort between Michigan State University, alumni, professional women, and current students.
WLI has been designed to support and empower students with leadership aspirations. We ignite women leaders with a vision of advancing women globally through thought leadership, creating a sustainable community, and providing high quality programming for our students, faculty and MSU community.
