We are so excited that you are interested in joining the Scholars Program!
To apply to the Social Science Scholars Program, you must provide the following materials:
- Two reference letters from high school teachers and/or advisors/professors sent directly to John Waller at wallerj1@msu.edu or Karen Holt, holtkar1@msu.edu.
- An official high school transcript detailing your academic record sent directly to John Waller at wallerj1@msu.edu or Karen Holt, holtkar1@msu.edu. If you are applying as a current freshman, please also supply us with a record of your MSU transcript to date.
- A written statement of up to 2,000 words that will enable the selection panel to evaluate your suitability for the Scholars Program. We do not recommend submissions significantly shorter than the word limit: we want to be able to get as detailed a sense of your interests as possible. The personal statement may take the form of (a) a personal reflection on why this program would benefit you and suit your abilities and aspirations; (b) an analysis of specific social, political, economic, environmental, or ethical issues that are of personal interest to you; or (c) some combination of (a) and (b). Please paste your statement into the application form.
- A copy of your ACT or SAT score report sent directly to John Waller at wallerj1@msu.edu or Karen Holt at holtkar1@msu.edu.
Selected applicants will then be invited for an online interview. The deadline for applications each calendar year is April 1 for admission in the fall but early application is strongly recommended. You will hear back from us within a couple of weeks of applying.
